Our Host City Innsbruck

The return of the Winter Deaflympics to Tyrol in 2027 is far more than just a major sporting event for the Innsbruck region. Having originated in Seefeld in 1949, it is all the more an honour and a pleasure today to be able to host this time-honoured event together with Seefeld. This presents a special opportunity for Innsbruck: as an internationally renowned sporting city, we wish to offer the deaf community a visible, appreciative platform – a platform that connects, inspires and has an impact beyond sport.
In recent years, we at Innsbruck Tourism have devoted ourselves intensively to the topic of accessible tourism. Our aim is to create offerings that enable everyone – regardless of their individual circumstances – to enjoy a stay that is as easy, comfortable and, at the same time, unforgettable as possible. The 2027 Winter Deaflympics now offer the first opportunity to bring these developments to life on an international stage and to position Innsbruck as an inclusive tourism destination in the long term.
For us, the focus is not only on infrastructure, but above all on togetherness. Sport is an essential part of Innsbruck’s identity – here, it is not just organised, but lived. It is precisely this enthusiasm that we want to make tangible at the Deaflympics. Together with regional partners, we have already implemented important awareness-raising measures to further strengthen understanding of the needs of people with disabilities. Because true inclusion arises where openness, awareness and quality come together – the 2027 Deaflympics will lend a special radiance to this aspiration.
